Every Friday we list 7 of the best stories we’ve read throughout the week. Most have something to do with small business and getting funding or business loans. Occasionally we’ll add something that’s completely off topic.

Enjoy the stories below and please share something you’ve read this week.

The 35th edition of Eyeball Worthy Links of the Week:

    1. A hair of the dog — The Economist — “Across the country, bank lending, which shrank almost steadily from early 2009, is growing again …”

    2. Tough Times for Franchising — Wall Street Journal — “Two closely watched disputes now playing out in the courts are shining a spotlight on tensions between franchise owners and management.”

    3. THE CAGING OF AMERICA — The New Yorker — “Six million people are under correctional supervision in the U.S. — more than were in Stalin’s gulags.” The U.S. is prison mad, and this is a well-written article examining why.

    4. Kodak to shutter camera business — Reuters — “Eastman Kodak Co (EKDKQ.PK), the inventor of the digital camera, plans to get out of that business in the first half of the year as the bankrupt company looks to cut costs …”

    5. Revamped SBA financial system modernization running over budget — Fierce Government IT — “Despite taking the advice of the Office of Management and Budget and breaking up a large financial system modernization effort into smaller increments, the Small Business Administration continues to grapple with cost overruns and schedule delays …”

    6. House Examines SBA’s Outdated Loan Management Systems — House Committee on Small Business — “The fact that the SBA began the modernization process almost seven years ago and has received millions in funding, but continues to mismanage the updating process is completely unacceptable.”

    7. The Miraculous NASA Breakthrough That Could Save Millions of Lives — Gozmodo — NASA created a biocapsule made of carbon nanotubes that will be able to “diagnose” and instantly treat an astronaut without him or her even knowing there’s something amiss. And it works on Earth, too.

Now it’s your turn. What did you see this week that is worthy of everyone’s eyeballs?
